Weimaraners are often likened to the perpetual two-year-olds of the canine world, known for their boundless energy and constant need for attention.
Gus, a rescued Weimaraner, is a perfect example of these characteristics.
With his big, endearing eyes and remarkable patience, he’s absolutely adorable in how he goes the extra mile to catch his owner’s attention.
The Weimaraner Club of America describes these dogs well.
According to them, one characteristic that defines all Weimaraners is they’re love of people.
They say, “It’s hard to generalize about the Weimaraner personality but a core trait, that runs in the veins of all of them, is that they are people-centric. They love the company of humans to the point that they will follow you around your house like a second shadow. Weimaraners are always underfoot, curious, wanting to be involved in your activities.”
One day, Gus’s owner decided to play a little game with him.
He wanted to see how Gus would react if he didn’t give him any attention. Right from the start, it was evident that Gus wasn’t thrilled about this game.
Standing on his hind legs with his front paws resting on his owner’s lap, Gus made it abundantly clear that he was there and ready for some attention.
The owner would occasionally glance at Gus, which only seemed to make him more impatient.
Gus tried everything, from placing a paw on his owner’s shoulder to maintaining eye contact.
However, his efforts were met with only fleeting eye contact and no petting or conversation.
In an interesting twist, Gus decided to change his approach.
He flipped the script and ignored his owner – but still stayed close, of course.
This mutual ignoring game didn’t last long.
Gus, being the attention-loving Weimaraner he is, couldn’t resist breaking the silence.
Throughout the whole exchange, Gus’s tail wagged excitedly, revealing his inability to truly ignore his owner.
When all else failed, Gus resorted to barking, which briefly grabbed his owner’s attention. But when this tactic failed too, Gus decided his dad wasn’t worth his attention anymore.
Despite his owner’s attempts to coax him back, Gus remained stubborn.
Instead, he shifted his focus to his human mom behind the camera.
Gus was determined to get the attention he craved and deserved from his mom.
His interest was piqued when she began whispering, “Do you want food? Are you hungry? What do you want? Go get your dish.”
The mere mention of food was enough to grab any dog’s attention.
Gus moved closer to the kitchen counter, signaling his desire for food. However, he didn’t move to get his dish.
After being ignored by his dad, he felt he deserved to be served by his mom.
Without delay, Gus scampered off, probably to fetch his dish and enjoy a well-deserved meal.
