Believe it or not, Pitbulls are considered the most neglected and abused dogs in the world.
Lately, they’ve been the number one breed that often gets admitted in a lot of animal shelters.
They are at the top when it comes to euthanasia, too.
A dog named Bowie nearly is one of the millions of dogs that are thrown away by heartless humans every year.
Fortunately, kind people found him and turned his life around. Now, he doesn’t have to worry about his future anymore.
Bowie was rescued in southeast Wichita.
The Wichita Animal Action League reported that the dog was found inside a locked kennel.
A previous adopter first saw him.
She had to climb a dumpster just to get him out and take him to the Veterinary Emergency Specialty Hospital.
Despite being thin and looking weak, Bowie had good lab results.
He tested negative for Parvo. Plus, his blood panel was good, indicating that his organs are doing well.
He weighed just around 20 pounds.
Apart from being malnourished, he also had ulcers on his back.
The vets had to treat them with lasers.
After his health stabilized, the poor dog was transferred to a foster family.
During his first few days there, they noticed that the dog was super submissive.
It was a clear sign of neglect and abuse from his former owners.
The family ended up adopting Bowie for good.
Matt and Connie felt that the dog needed them and they happily took him in for good.
They knew that Bowie needed a place he can call home where he would feel safe and loved.
That’s exactly what they gave the rescued Pit Bull.
Their decision was life-changing for the dog.
Bowie’s recovery wasn’t easy.
Fortunately, he has his new humans to help him.
They made sure to feed him well despite his stomach issues.
After a few weeks, he was able to reach his ideal weight.
Walking was hard, too.
Since Bowie spend all his life locked inside a kennel, he didn’t know what going out for walks, too.
Because of that, they had to start by helping him walk for about 20 years.
After two weeks, they managed to get him walking around the block.
Bowie’s character changed a lot.
He was happier and more energetic.
From being submissive, his character flourished and his new humans loved him more for that.
Now, Bowie’s favorite thing to do is run.
In fact, he could easily spend hours zooming around his new yard.
Hot or cold, day or night, he’d run around and just be on cloud nine.
Seeing him have fun in his yard is just heartwarming.
From spending his days in a kennel, he can now run freely.
